Few places are more uniquely beautiful than the Western slope of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Our ranch is located in the heart of these hills in Shingle Springs, a southwest section of El Dorado County. The gentle slopes, rock outcroppings, oak trees and natural springs add a certain flavor that attracts people from all areas. Granite Creek Ranch is comprised of 135 acres and once was the home ranch for a large cattle operation run by the Swift family. The old stone house and cellar foundation are still visible as is the old stockyard holding pens. Prior to that, it was home to the Southern Maidu Indians, whose village was located next to a prominent spring. The 150 plus milling station rock grindings are evidence of a once thriving rangeland rich with bounty to sustain the Indian natives of this area.

The history of the area is further connected to the Gold Rush of the 1850's. In 1849, one year after gold was discovered in California, thousands of hopeful gold seekers arrived. Many of them came through the area and settled in Shingle Springs.
When you come to our ranch, you should not miss the opportunity to visit "Old Hangtown" Placerville, which is located on Highway 50, 10 miles east on the way to Lake Tahoe.
